Presentation topic: Financial aspects of being a self-employed Professional Organizer

Presentation Title: Am I Making A Living At This? Financial Decisions I've Made-Both Good and Bad

Presentation Description: Know the expenses related to being self-employed and the importance of charging what you're worth. Get some insight into financial decisions made by the presenter and other organizers (both good and bad decisions) to help you make decisions that support you and your business and hopefully help you avoid financial mistakes.

Presentation Goals: 1) Understand the importance of taking overhead expenses, taxes, and benefits into consideration when setting your rates. 2) Know the fine line between undercharging and overcharging. 3) Learn from both good and bad financial decisions made by the presenter and other organizers (related to both business and personal finances).

Speaker Bio: Susan Kousek is a certified Professional Organizer and the owner of Balanced Spaces, LLC, in Reston Virginia. She joined NAPO and the Washington DC Metro Chapter in 1999 and the Virtual Chapter in 2017.  She's been self-employed since 1985 and has made many financial decisions along the way, some good and some bad. She is single and not independently wealthy so money is important to her. She is semi-retired (works two days a week instead of five or six) and plans to fully retire when she doesn't enjoy working any more (though she believes she can afford to retire now). Susan has worked with clients in both the residential and office environment, as well as taught seminars. In semi-retirement, she's focusing on consulting and speaking.
