Presentation Description:

More than almost any professional group I know, organizers are faced with the challenge of helping compulsive buying clients. A number of organizers have told me how frustrating it can be to help a client pare down and let go of possessions, only to learn that, in short order, the client has acquired more. Others have told me that they feel at a loss about how to help and don’t feel very effective. This workshop will offer participants specific tools, skills, strategies, and resources so that they can help compulsive buying clients more confidently and competently.

Presentation Goals:

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to: 1. Define compulsive buying, and be able to identify and assess it. 2. Determine when, whether, and how to intervene with a compulsive buying client. 3.Use several highly effective techniques with compulsive buying clients. 4.Determine if a client who buys compulsively needs additional professional help. 5.Provide information to clients on a variety of relevant resources.
